The Glue Does Not Make the Collage

As part of the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Birth of Júlio Pomar, AMJP presents the exhibition «Júlio Pomar. The Glue Does Not Make the Collage», which spans more than seven decades of the artist’s work. Starting from the idea of collage as a broad procedure, this exhibition proposes an expanded reading of Júlio Pomar’s artistic practice, from the neo-realist period to the final stage of his life. According to Pomar, «pinto, recorto, combino, repinto ou raspo, arranho, limo, aliso; para a seguir talvez nada mais fazer do que re-recortar, re-combinar, re-pintar, outra vez, e tudo desarrumar». Pomar tests articulations and ways of fitting together, just as one human body goes to meet another, driven by desire or attraction.
