We begin the retrospective dedicated to Miloš Forman with the filmmaker's most awarded film. Winner of eight Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, *Amadeus* is a biographical epic inspired by Peter Shaffer's play, who also collaborated on the screenplay. The film portrays the life, successes and tribulations of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through the eyes of Antonio Salieri, his rival and contemporary. Consumed by jealousy, Salieri narrates his devotion to God and to music, while envying Mozart's divine genius. Between envy and admiration, the story reveals the tragic downfall of both classical composers.
