Amália in America, Beyond Fado

This performance revisits Amália Rodrigues’s journey in America, starting with the impact she made in 1952 at the La Vie en Rose nightclub in New York, and the performances that followed at the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. With the Orquestra das Beiras and performances by Cristina Branco, Raquel Tavares and Ricardo Ribeiro, the programme brings together traditional fados, fado songs by Frederico Valério and traditional Portuguese songs in a tribute to her universal Portuguese identity.
