ARCA. Architectures of Rupture, Bodies and Absences

Museu Municipal de Coimbra presents, at Edifício Chiado, the international group exhibition “ARCA. Arquiteturas da Rutura, Corpos e Ausências”. Directed and curated by Victoria Esgueva López and Susana García Rams, the project brings together 20 artists and original works conceived specifically for the exhibition.

The exhibition draws on official statistics, institutional reports and data from observatories in Spain and Portugal to address issues such as access to employment, the presence of women in positions of responsibility, the gender pay gap, the distribution of domestic tasks and care responsibilities. These data are transformed into images, spaces and narratives that make visible structural inequalities that are often normalised or ignored.

Participating artists are Amparo Berenguer Wieden, Victoria Esgueva, Chele Esteve, Amparo Galbis Juan, Susana García Rams, Begoña Jordá Albiñana, María Martín Gallego, Hortensia Mínguez García, Paula Santiago, Ana Tomás, Sara Vilar García, Inmaculada Carpe, Vanesa Valero, Célia Bragança, Regina Costa, Manuela Cristóvão, Sónia Rafael, Isabel Pyrrait, Inez Wijnhorst and Maria do Carmo Raminhas Mendes. The exhibition will continue to tour different exhibition spaces in Spain, strengthening cultural exchange between the two countries.
