about the event
This week in cinema brings together several premieres, with special attention to two Portuguese documentaries and a Chilean production distinguished in Cannes.
In the spotlight is *Sophia Setembro de 1963*, by Hugo Pereira and Vanessa Duarte, which follows the journey of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen to Greece, in the company of Agustina Bessa-Luís and Alberto Luís, from the fragments left in her diary. Also featured is *Nova ’78*, by Rodrigo Areias and Aaron Brookner, which recovers archive images from the *Nova Convention* and evokes a striking moment in 1970s counterculture, with appearances by Philip Glass, John Cage, Laurie Anderson and Patti Smith.
The program also includes *O Misterioso Olhar do Flamingo*, by Diego Céspedes, winner of Best Film in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, as well as *Um Toque Familiar*, by Sarah Friedland, *Homem-Aranha – Um Novo Dia*, by Destin Daniel Cretton, *Her Private Hell*, by Nicolas Winding Refn, and *Motor City – Sede de Vingança*, by Potsy Ponciroli, making up a week marked by documentary, drama, action and horror.
