Beethoven 9th Symphony Symphonic Concert

On the fiftieth anniversary of Festa do Avante!, this symphonic concert proposes the complete performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, a work premiered in 1824 and marked by the entry of voices in its final movement. The choice is linked to the ideals of peace, fraternity and freedom that the text associates with the Festa and with Beethoven’s own humanist thinking. The finale with Schiller’s «Hymn to Joy» takes on a commemorative and political-cultural meaning here, reinforced by the memory that the 9th Symphony had already been performed in the symphonic concert for the Festa’s 25th anniversary, in 2001.
