The FIMP at TNSJ | 2026 | Crime and Punishment
Part ofFIMP 2026 — Festival Internacional de Marionetas do Portoabout the event
It is summer in Saint Petersburg. The city is immersed in stifling heat. The young student Raskolnikov leaves the rented cubicle where he lives, which “looks more like a closet than a room”, and wanders through streets and alleyways. Desperate and oppressed by poverty, he decides to murder an old moneylender in order to steal her money. A crime he tries to justify to himself with the idea that great men, like Caesar or Napoleon, were murderers absolved by History. But after the crime comes the punishment, and Raskolnikov is overcome by a piercing feeling of guilt. The Belgian company Karyatides, an international reference in puppet and object theatre, draws inspiration from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s great classic (1821-81) to create a show full of rhythm, music and some humor. *Crime e Castigo* is “the anatomy of a crime, from its fantasy to its confession”.
