DAMAS

As part of Quintas de Cinema, *DAMAS* is presented, a documentary by Cláudia Alves about a group of women from the Portuguese upper class who, during the First World War, volunteered to serve in France as Red Cross nurses. Known as “Damas Enfermeiras”, these women sought to support the wounded and the sick while facing difficulties in realizing their goal of opening a hospital, which eventually began operating on 9 April 1918, at the start of the Battle of La Lys. The film features Teresa Mello Sampayo and Beatriz Rodrigues, with production by Pandora da Cunha Telles and Pablo Iraola.
