Four irreverent young people leave Calcutta to spend a weekend in an inland forest, seeking to escape the monotony of urban life. Between alcohol, seduction games and encounters with the local population, they begin to confront insecurities and prejudices they would rather ignore. With humor and melancholy, Satyajit Ray paints an incisive portrait of the urban youth of post-independence India. The 4K restoration we are screening was presented in Cannes in 2025 by The Film Foundation, in a project led by Wes Anderson and supervised by Ray’s family.
