Assumption Festivities

Assumption Festivities 2026 take place at Igreja da Lapa with a religious and festive programme throughout August. It opens on 6 August with a fireworks wheel and bell ringing, followed by the preparatory novena and daily Eucharist from 6 to 14 August. On 14 August there will be a major musical show with Vítor Rodrigues at Largo António Nobre and a fireworks display at midnight at Frente Marítima. The main liturgical and public moments are concentrated on 15 August, with bell ringing, a 21-gun salute, the morning Eucharist, the Solemn Eucharist and an imposing procession with a salute to the sea and fireworks. The programme continues with thanksgiving and closing Masses from 16 to 22 August.
