Wood Firing for Pieces II
about the event
"fogo à peça II" is a workshop dedicated to wood firing, focused on exploring the specific effects of this type of kiln in a reducing atmosphere. The proposal involves preparing and carrying out the firing, closely observing the marks left by the flame and the ash deposits that form during the process.
Participants are invited to bring pieces made by themselves, in ceramic body compatible with 1260ºC or higher, already bisque-fired and small in size. Registration includes the firing of one piece measuring about 17 cm high by 35 cm long by 15 cm wide, or several pieces of equivalent volume. It is also possible to bring additional pieces, preferably small ones, to make use of the free spaces in the kiln.
The workshop takes place at the Centro de Investigação Cerâmica, in Montemor-o-Novo, and is led by Nuno Tomaz. The indicated firing temperature is 1260ºC, with wood firing and a reducing atmosphere. Authors may also bring raw engobes or glazes suitable for that temperature, applied by themselves, with responsibility for material compatibility resting with each participant.
