Ganhar a Vida

As the opening of a retrospective, Batalha Centro de Cinema presents *Ganhar a Vida*, João Canijo’s film released in 2001.

The narrative follows Cidália, who lives with her family in the outskirts of Paris, where she works to save money. The death of her eldest son at the hands of the police breaks the discretion in which she lived and leads her to confront the official explanations, in a portrait shaped by Portuguese emigration in France and by tensions within the community.
