Synopsis

Originating in a mapping of the poetry of the world as a manifesto that is simultaneously human and humanist, Atlas, poetic mapping proposes an encounter between the experience of immigration in Portugal and the poetic universe of different places in the world. Our coexistence with immigration in Portugal, in a space of geographic proximity, is represented mostly as a space of distance and unfamiliarity that we wish to reduce, to bring closer. The work process with the six performers will develop through a close connection with sound, gesture, movement and word. — Joana Providência / Teatro do Bolhão

Author biography text

Joana Providência was born in Braga, in 1965. She began her dance studies with Fernanda Canossa. In 1989, she completed the course at the Escola Superior de Dança of the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. Since 1995, she has been part of ACE Escola de Artes, and is a member of the artistic direction of Teatro do Bolhão. In her choreographic work, she has developed a language in which she privileges the performer-choreographer relationship. She has taken part in festivals such as Mostra de Dança Portuguesa ACARTE, New Moves, Glasgow, Festival de Otoño, Spring Dance and Klapstuck, Tanzplattform, DDD — Festival Dias da Dança and Chantiers d’Europe of Théâtre de la Ville.

Teatro do Bolhão was formed in 2002 by professionals from ACE Escola de Artes. The company, based in the Palácio do Bolhão, promotes an eclectic and multidisciplinary production model and maintains a synergistic relationship with ACE, integrating young professionals into a work team in constant renewal.
