*Kuroneko* is a poetic horror fable set in feudal Japan ravaged by war. After being raped and murdered by a group of samurai, a woman and her daughter-in-law return as vengeful spirits, thanks to the power of a black cat, luring warriors into a trap near the Rajomon gate. When a war hero is sent to eliminate the threat, he is forced to confront supernatural forces and his own dilemmas. Inspired by Japanese folklore, the film combines macabre fantasy, social critique and a feminist perspective, exploring violence, desire and guilt through stunning black-and-white cinematography.
