Luisa Fernanda Alfonso Masterpiece

In *Masterpiece*, Luisa Fernanda Alfonso starts from fascinations and frustrations to embody and subvert the archetypes of the “character ballerina” and the “mariachi”, figures marked by drama, virtuosity and a strong gender charge. The creation explores the excesses of these Latin American imaginaries and diverts dance from its legitimacy, its legacy and its traditions.

In collaboration with composer Peter Rubel, the artist works with repetition, interruption, abandonment and reconstruction of dances and songs, in a space where consonance and dissonance intersect. The presence of an abundance of loudspeakers, repurposed as sound sculptures and acoustic partners, adds a physical and musical dimension to the piece.

This is the national premiere of a performance created by Luisa Fernanda Alfonso, with costumes by Isabelle Marie Lange and production by HZT Berlin.
