*A Ilha Púrpura: Notas e Paisagens* brings together paintings by Manuel João Vieira made at different points in his artistic career, dating back to the 1980s. The works combine Greco-Roman, Baroque, Surrealist and metaphysical references with humour, satire and enigma.

Curated by João Pinharanda, the exhibition also highlights the theatrical dimension of the artist’s work, visible in canvases that evoke scenographies, landscapes populated by fantastical beings, improbable architectures and aquatic elements.
