The Kiss on the Asphalt – Miguel Loureiro

On stage at TNSJ — Teatro Nacional de São João, this version of *O Beijo no Asfalto* draws on Nelson Rodrigues’s Rio tragedy to look, in a contemporary key, at life, death, prejudice, and morality. Miguel Loureiro’s staging keeps the Brazilian Portuguese and brings together Brazilian actors living in Portugal, following the story of a man who is hit by a car and asks a stranger for a kiss on the mouth before dying, a gesture that sparks public scandal, police persecution, and media speculation.
