The Universe's Ghost - The Search for Dark Matter

date20 Aug - 12 Sep

about the event

Do you believe in ghosts? What if we told you there is something we cannot see, feel, or touch! It emits no light, nor does it reflect any, but it is everywhere! Start believing: the Universe has a dark side that, although invisible, is as real as any of us. Come discover the Universe’s Ghost, a planetarium session that will introduce you to the Universe as you have never seen it before! In The Universe’s Ghost we will explore the exciting story of the discovery of dark matter, from the first clues observed by Fritz Zwicky to its confirmation by Vera Rubin when she observed the orbital speed of the stars in the Andromeda galaxy. Today there are several experiments under way to discover the origin of this mysterious matter, which practically interacts only gravitationally with conventional matter. Among them is the Large Hadron Collider LHC, at CERN.
