about the event
Antigone is a figure of resistance who has inspired reflection for two thousand years. A figure who does not command consensus, we find counterparts for this character throughout history. In this project, the audience is invited to undertake the same exercise: to find a counterpart for Antigone’s conflict in the contemporary world in order to inspire a particular form of thinking about resistance in the face of the housing crisis in modern cities, where a mercantilist logic takes precedence over humanist concerns. Where value lies not in the individual, but in the market. The performance invites the audience to reflect on what kind of city we want, and why we want cities like that. The possibility of doing so in geographies with different urban realities allows the reflection to be deepened. It also incorporates internal migration movements, which are depopulating villages and towns and, consequently, collective life in these places.
