Synopsis

*Equilíbrios* is a contemporary circus project that addresses the discipline of balance itself as subject matter for research. The project develops through a solo piece in a single discipline, using the rolling ball practice as a form of expression. “What is balance?” is the question that drives this project. Depending on the approach, balance can be understood as a negotiation of forces between extremes. Despite its stability, it is always circumstantial, and tension is a constant element inherent to its existence. This work explores the concept through practice, seeking to understand it in order to recognize it in other contexts. — Pedro Matias

Author biography text

Pedro Matias, originally from Salvaterra de Magos, is a contemporary circus artist. He trained in circus at the Escola Profissional de Artes e Ofícios do Espetáculo do Chapitô and at the Instituto Nacional de Artes do Circo, completing these programs in 2020. Since then, he has developed various collaborations as a performer in the fields of circus and contemporary dance. His work is based mainly on balancing, juggling, and movement.
