King Lear

António Pires presents a full version of *King Lear* based on Álvaro Cunhal’s translation, made in prison between 1953 and 1955 and published under a pseudonym in the following decade. With a cast of 15 actors, the production highlights Adriano Luz as the old monarch who finds himself betrayed by his most ambitious daughters. The staging, produced by Teatro do Bairro/Ar de Filmes with UAU, revives a clear and fluent reading of Shakespeare to underscore the violence of power, madness, and human fragility.
