about the event
"Os Emigrantes", by Slawomir Mrozek, appears in this staging as a profound and unsettling reflection on the condition of the immigrant, transposing the human conflict directly to the center of the stage in the heart of an abandoned theatre. It is theatre within theatre itself. The action centers on a minimalist scenic space that functions as a microcosm, turning the refuge of the two characters into the center of the world itself.
Originally planned for the Teatro Animação de Setúbal (TAS) in 1978 and now recovered for its pressing relevance, the production explores the everyday life of two men of different origins who share the same underworld. By staging the struggle for survival as an explicit and confined theatrical game, the play exposes the paradox of modern cities, where the promise of freedom coexists with xenophobia, fear, and isolation.
