ÚLULU begins with an ancient ritual from São Toméan culture: the úlulu, a word that means placenta in forro or lúngwa santomé, is buried in the family’s large yard together with the umbilical cord. From this practice handed down by older generations, the performance brings together body, memory and cultural heritage to evoke the connection between birth, belonging and continuity.
Presented in the Pequeno Auditório of Theatro Circo, it is part of the dance programme and is intended for ages 12 and over, with admission permitted from age 3.
