11th Barcelos Jazz and Improvised Music Festival 2026
about the event
In its 11th edition, the festival once again takes over Barcelos over four days, bringing together jazz and improvised music proposals that combine names already cherished by the public with world premieres. The program opens with Andy Sheppard’s trio, joined by Michel Benita and Rita Marcotulli, and continues with the Lisbon Jazz Sextet, which brings Mário Laginha and Mário Barreiros back to the city.
On Saturday, the afternoon is marked by the premiere of Mostafa Taleb in a concert for kamancheh, followed in the evening by the return of Azul, Carlos Bica’s project, in dialogue with Jim Black and Frank Möbus. The final day takes on a more exploratory line, with Rapid Zen, bringing together Gonçalo Almeida with the debuts of Bárbara Togander and Vasco Trilla, and with Ensemble JAL, created within the festival itself.
The edition also includes the workshop "Sononautas - Ecoescuta", designed for younger audiences and focused on exploring the city’s soundscapes and promoting active listening.
