Dialogues of the Carmelites

Three-act opera by Francis Poulenc, presented by the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, which brings to the stage the story of Blanche de la Force and the Carmelite community of Compiègne.

The action takes place in Paris in 1794, during the Revolutionary Terror, and follows Blanche’s entry into the convent, the dissolution of the community, and the sisters’ martyrdom. The production thus offers a dramatic reading of one of the most striking titles in twentieth-century operatic repertoire, in two performances at Sala Luis Miguel Cintra.
