about the event
The exhibition presents more than a hundred works by Agostinho Santos, produced over four decades and brought together in a journey that crosses painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics. The selection highlights several central series by the artist, where recurring themes emerge such as injustice, war, social inequalities and other human frailties.
The critical side of the work is also emphasized by his experience as a journalist, which directly influenced the way Agostinho Santos looks at the world and turns it into image. In the most recent works, made after the pandemic, new symbolic figures appear, associated with the fear and uncertainty of that period.
Born in Vila Nova de Gaia, the artist has an extensive exhibition history in Portugal and abroad.
