about the event
In *Haribo Kimchi*, Jaha Koo takes the audience into a pojangmacha, the South Korean late-night street-food bar, where a snail, a gummy bear and an eel guide a culinary and emotional journey.
The piece interweaves intimate and absurd accounts of the evolution of kimchi culture, the shame of trying to fit in, and the racism experienced by those far from their culture of origin. The performance combines music, video and robotic performers and is part of the Alkantara Festival 2026 programme at the Main Hall of Teatro do Bairro Alto.
The presentation includes accessibility in Korean and English, with subtitles in Portuguese and English. The performance contains loud sound and strong smells.
