about the event
TAMBOR is a solo work grounded in autobiographical memories, cultural practices, and migration experiences. On stage, a body seeks intense physical states, invoking the codes of Venezuelan folk dance, street dance, and clubbing. Between power, resistance, and celebration, the choreographic score is drawn from the dismantling of these vocabularies, of rhythm, beat, and footwork, with variations of focus and rupture in space. Symbolisms emerge from the evocation of personal myths that operate as engines for the creation of gesture and of an embodied imaginary. Inspired by conversations with my mother, TAMBOR maps the intimate and social archive, exploring beyond binary logics and the tensions of belonging and not belonging. — Melissa Pérez Sousa / COMMON GROUND
