The Silence of Hephaestus
about the event
The exhibition The Silence of Hephaestus presents works from the State Contemporary Art Collection in a route conceived from the Capelinhos eruption, in Faial. From that point of departure, it proposes a reflection on the territory of the Azores, natural disasters, and the relationships with Portugal’s recent history.
The group brings together works produced between 1957 and the present, crossing different artistic approaches around territory and the acoustic dimension. Along the route, the exhibition crosses the idea of listening with that of silence, questioning who can speak and in what way the catastrophe becomes audible.
