The action begins with the safety instructions before the show and turns that moment into an excuse for Peçanha, the "Sargento-Tenente-Major" with "more than twenty years in the corps behind him," to comment on everyday life, work, and the difficulty of an official of "forty-something" years old adapting to the world of 2026. In the plot, the wait for a late actor creates room for him to keep the audience entertained while presenting the fictional play "Hamlet."
