Viola da Saudade

“Viola da Saudade” is an exhibition dedicated to the Viola da Terra of the Azores and to the career of Master Miguel de Braga Pimentel, presented in the context of the process of cataloguing and safeguarding this traditional instrument.

Born in Maia, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, Miguel de Braga Pimentel was a musician of traditional Azorean music, composer, teacher, master player and viola maker, also making his own instruments. The exhibition pays tribute to his role in promoting the art of playing and building the Viola da Terra and in the revival of the instrument and its musical repertoire during the 1980s and 1990s.

Promoted by the Secretaria Regional da Educação, Cultura e Desporto, through the Direção Regional da Cultura, in partnership with the Museu Municipal da Ribeira Grande and with the collaboration of the Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional Luís da Silva Ribeiro, the exhibition can be visited between 11 September and 31 October 2026, at this library, in Angra do Heroísmo.
