about the event

The visit to Barra Lighthouse invites you to discover the tallest Portuguese lighthouse, 62 metres high, and one of the most emblematic landmarks of Praia da Barra. Owned by the National Maritime Authority and used as a military facility, it stands out both for the imposing nature of the building and its excellent state of preservation.

From the top, on days without fog, the landscape opens out over the Ria de Aveiro and several points along the coast, from Barra to Costa Nova, passing through São Jacinto, its military base, and the port city of Gafanha da Nazaré. The visit takes place in several time slots, in winter between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and participation is free on Wednesday afternoons.

Wednesday afternoon bookings are made on site, on a first-come, first-served basis and without prior appointment, with groups limited to six people.
