Los Van Van

Formed in 1969 by Juan Formell, Los Van Van reinvented traditional charanga by bringing together flutes and violins with electric bass, drums and keyboards. From there, they became pioneers of songo and a major reference in Cuban music, with an influence felt in salsa far beyond the island. Today, the orchestra maintains its classic yet up-to-date groove, following the path laid down by Formell and by his son Juan, who took over musical direction in 2014.
