Vexation of Spirit. The Duerckheim Collection x Serralves

*Vexation of Spirit. The Duerckheim Collection x Serralves* is the first presentation at Serralves of the contemporary art collection assembled over four decades by Count Duerckheim and recently deposited with the Foundation. The exhibition brings together around 90 works by 34 artists and highlights a group of central names in twentieth- and twenty-first-century art, including artists who were not part of the Serralves Collection.

Structured around religion, society and war, the exhibition proposes a critical look at the transformations of contemporary history and at the urgency of the present. The title, taken from the Book of Ecclesiastes, reinforces this dimension of moral unease and historical awareness that runs through the selection of works.

Curated by Marta Moreira de Almeida, deputy director of the Museum, in close dialogue with Count Duerckheim, the exhibition occupies the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art as a testimony that brings together artistic creation and historical debate.
